Google has introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash, the newest addition to its AI model lineup, along with a general-purpose AI agent named Gemini Spark. These technologies were announced at the company’s annual developer conference as Google accelerates its efforts in AI amidst competition in the industry.
Gemini 3.5 Flash, now available through the Gemini app and across Google’s platforms, will replace earlier versions as the standard model for both the app and AI Mode globally. The company highlighted improvements in programming capabilities, support for AI agents, and more efficient token usage. According to Google, this model is significantly faster than previous iterations, citing a fourfold increase in output speed compared to other leading models.
A more sophisticated Gemini 3.5 Pro model has been introduced internally and is slated for public release in June, Google added.
In addition to new models, Google unveiled Gemini Spark, an AI agent within the Gemini app capable of working across various connected services and applications. The agent, supported by the Gemini 3.5 platform and integrated with Google’s Antigravity coding environment, can perform tasks like compiling status reports or filtering urgent business communications. Initial access to Spark will begin next week for select testers and AI Ultra subscribers.
Gemini Spark is designed to interact with a wide range of Google and third-party services including platforms such as Adobe, Asana, Dropbox, Lyft, and more. Google presented safeguards for Spark’s autonomous functions, noting that spending and transaction capabilities are restricted through the Agent Payments Protocol. All payment-related actions require user approval before processing.
Google has also reported monthly active users for Gemini in the following months:
- May 2025 Gemini has a total active users of 400 million.
- September 2025 Gemini has a total active users of 650 million.
- December 2025 Gemini has a total active users of 750 million.
- April 2026 Gemini has a total active users of more than 900 million.
