Central Retail Steps Up Climate Action with “CRC Shaping Net Zero” Programme

Mr. Suthisarn Chirathivat, Chief Executive Officer of Central Retail Corporation Public Company Limited (CRC), revealed that, “At a time when the world is facing growing climate challenges, Central Retail, as a leader in the retail and wholesale industry, recognises the importance of addressing this issue. We have continuously advanced sustainability initiatives under the ‘CRC Care’ philosophy, while adopting the ‘ReNEW’ strategy as our guiding framework, with a clear ambition to become a Net Zero organisation by 2050—in line with Thailand’s NDC 3.0 commitment on the global stage.

“We firmly believe that achieving this goal requires integrated collaboration across all business units and functions. This led to the launch of the ‘CRC Shaping Net Zero Programme – Designing Initiatives Towards Net Zero Goals Through Synergy and Innovation’ to further reinforce and accelerate our efforts, while also discovering new innovations and approaches that can most effectively drive the organisation towards its goals.”

To turn its Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions target into reality by 2050, every business unit within Central Retail has appointed Environmental Champions, who play a vital role in advancing environmental initiatives across the four core dimensions of the “ReNEW” strategy: Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Navigate Environmental Responsibility, Enable the use of Eco-friendly Materials, and Waste Management Solutions. These efforts are strongly supported by management through the implementation of numerous sustainability projects and innovations, including the installation of solar panels across retail stores and distribution centres, the adoption of LED lighting and expansion of EV charging stations, the use of clean-energy electric vehicles within logistics operations, and landfill waste reduction through waste separation and recycling initiatives. In addition, the “Hug the Earth” project encourages both the sale and consumption of environmentally friendly products.

The CRC Shaping Net Zero Programme marks another important milestone, bringing together Environment Champions from across all business units to participate in workshops that encourage knowledge sharing and spark new solutions. Promising ideas will receive support for pilot implementation as short-term initiatives to track and evaluate results, before being further developed into long-term roadmaps for the future. In addition, Central Retail places strong emphasis on building a sustainability ecosystem together with partners across the value chain. The programme is honoured to have leading industry partners, including PwC, SCGP, WHA Corporation, and OR, to share their experiences and collaborate in developing practical, actionable sustainability solutions.

Ms. Jariya Chirathivat, Chief Sustainability Officer of Central Retail Corporation Public Company Limited (CRC) added, “Central Retail firmly believes that sustainability is not the responsibility of any one individual. We are therefore committed to fostering an organisational culture that empowers everyone to become a driving force in achieving our shared goals. Today, Net Zero is no longer merely an optional initiative or a business opportunity. It is a necessity for survival and a reflection of competitiveness under the world’s new sustainability-driven rules. Today, we ignite change from within—sparking ideas, encouraging bold thinking, and driving action—while scaling impact across our 50,000+ employees, as well as customers, partners, and stakeholders, to create a positive ripple effect across society. We hope that the initiatives developed through this programme will serve as an important foundation for strengthening the organisation’s sustainability journey, while driving business growth alongside society and the environment in a truly meaningful way, in line with our commitment to being a Retail and Wholesale for All.”
