SET Index Edges Up Amid Interest in Domestic Stocks, Focus Remains on Middle East Developments

On Tuesday, Thailand’s SET Index closed the morning trading session at 1,583.27 points, showing an increase of 5.46 points or 0.35%, with a trading value of THB 39.55 billion.

FSS International Investment Advisory Securities (FSSIA) wrote that the Thai stock market experienced narrow fluctuations in the morning, cooling down after a surge of more than 35 points in the previous trading day.

The market is currently awaiting the release of the United States non-farm payrolls data scheduled for later this week. Meanwhile, investors are closely monitoring developments in the Middle East, particularly the negotiations between the United States and Iran, which are taking place today in Doha, Qatar.

There was notable buying interest in large-cap stocks with a domestic focus, as traders rotated among sectors such as ADVANC, GULF, and KTB. Additionally, speculative trading was observed in small-cap stocks that stand to benefit from data center investments, as well as beverage companies, which are seeing positive momentum due to hot weather conditions and the effects of El Niño.

For the afternoon session, FSSIA anticipates market movement will remain within a narrow range similar to the morning, though some volatility may arise near the market close due to portfolio revision. This is especially likely for stocks in the SET50 and SET100 indices, given their mid-year review and adjustment.

DELTA may also see selling pressure following a reduction in weight as per the capped weighting criteria. Overall, the market is expected to maintain its level throughout the day. Key technical levels identified by the brokerage are support at 1,560 points and resistance at 1,590–1,600 points.
