U.S. stock futures rallied on Monday, supported by a significant drop in oil prices and easing geopolitical tensions. Major indices made notable gains as investors looked ahead to a critical week featuring key technology earnings reports and a Federal Reserve policy announcement.
At 4:10 p.m. (Bangkok Time), futures linked to the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 491 points, or 0.94%, while S&P 500 futures climbed 0.95%. Nasdaq 100 futures outperformed, rising 1.59%. The increase in equity futures followed a de-escalation of hostilities between the U.S. and Iran, which raised expectations that dialogue could resume after recent days of conflict.
A decline in oil prices contributed to the positive tone. Brent crude futures fell 7.96% to $89.08 a barrel on Monday, while West Texas Intermediate crude futures retreated 7.01% to $83.05 a barrel.
Softer oil prices have eased some of the inflationary pressure facing the Federal Reserve as policymakers prepare for their upcoming interest rate decision. The central bank is widely anticipated to keep rates unchanged, though uncertainty remains given the lack of clear guidance on policy direction this cycle.
Investor attention this week will also focus on a slate of earnings releases from major technology firms. Amazon, Apple, Meta Platforms, and Microsoft are set to report results, following weaker performance from Alphabet last week. These updates are expected to influence not just the broader market, but also semiconductor firms that have benefited from recent increases in AI-related investment.
In addition to the tech giants, companies such as AstraZeneca and Nucor will open the earnings calendar, with further results from SK Hynix, Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Procter & Gamble, and Arm Holdings. The week’s reports conclude with updates from energy majors ExxonMobil and Chevron.
