Thailand Approves THB50 Billion For Household Rooftop Solar

Thailand’s cabinet has authorized a 50 billion baht rooftop solar programme offering 50,000 baht in support to each of one million households. Applications run from October 27, 2026, to January 31, 2027, through the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA).

The household subsidies are intended to reduce energy-related living expenses while encouraging a shift to clean power. Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary Lavaron Sangsnit outlined the cabinet’s decision at Government House today.

Alongside the household programme, ministers backed smart-grid development with funding of 20 billion baht. The electricity network upgrades are designed to accommodate the transition to clean energy. Lavaron said the investment would also enable members of the public to sell electricity left over from their solar generation to the government.

A separate cabinet decision reduced taxes on biofuels. Lavaron said that measure would benefit farmers.
