Bottlenecked Supply Chain Might Get Worse with COVID Cases Detected in Second Chinese Port City

China detected omicron case in a second major port city, Dalian, deepening concerns of lockdown following the country’s zero COVID policy.

Dalian joins Tianjin as the second crucial port city with confirmed omicron cases. Their ports are among the twenty largest in the world — processing a combined total of 25 million TEU in 2020 — and serve as major production hubs for foreign companies such as Airbus and Volkswagen, according to Bloomberg.

Bloomberg reports, amid delays near Beiing and elsewhere, inbound ships are headed for Shanghai which is causing delays in shipping schedule by about a week and might have ripple effects as far as U.S. and Europe.
