Apple’s Retailers in China Offer 10% Discount on iPhones 14 Pro to Spur Demand

Due to the slow demand for smartphones, third-party retailers in China decided to offer 10% discounts on the iPhone 14 Pro.

The prices of the iPhone 14 Pro on the websites of JD.com and Suning were at 7,199 yuan ($1,062), cheaper than the price on Apple’s official China website by 800 yuan.

According to Reuters, other authorized Apple third-party sellers offered the same discounts on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Apple sometimes allows partner vendors to offer discounts to increase demand.

In 2022, China’s smartphone sales were at 286 million, the lowest in a decade, with sales in the fourth quarter dropping 14% due to falling demand, as cited by research from Canalys.

In this quarter, Apple sales shrink 24%, said Canalys, partly because of the early launch of iPhone 14 series and supply chain issues caused by the employee unrest at Foxconn, the contract manufacturer of Apple.
