Thai Finance Minister Travels to US for High-Stakes Trade Talks

Thai Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira announced on Monday that he is set to depart for the United States later today to participate in bilateral trade discussions over the following two days.

Speaking in an interview with a local news outlet, Pichai expressed optimism that U.S. tariffs imposed on Thai exports would not surpass those charged to other trading partners.

Currently, Thailand risks being subjected to a 36% U.S. tariff rate if negotiations fail to yield a reduction before the temporary suspension expires on July 9. The finance minister’s visit underscores Thailand’s efforts to secure more favorable terms and avoid steep duties that could impact Thai businesses and exporters.
