On December 23, at 1.30 p.m. bangkok time, Lavaron Sangsnit, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, together with Vitai Ratanakorn, Governor of the Bank of Thailand (BOT), and Pornanong Busaratragoon, Secretary-General, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will hold a press conference on the Thai baht situation at the Kamphan Ngoen Room, 21st floor, 150th Anniversary Building, Ministry of Finance.
This press conference comes amid close scrutiny of the Thai baht, which has been appreciating steadily. As of this morning, the baht was trading at around THB 31.17 per US dollar, near a psychological support level closely watched by the market.
On December 22, the Global Markets Group of Bank of Ayudhya Public Company Limited (SET: BAY) assessed that the baht this week is likely to move within the range of THB 31.25–31.65 per US dollar, compared to the previous week.
The report noted that the baht closed last week at THB 31.46 per US dollar, after moving between THB 31.37–31.57. The baht reached its strongest level in four and a half years, while the US dollar also strengthened against most major currencies.
