Dow Jones Futures Drop on Report of Ukrainian Firing Mortars on LPR Locations

Dow Jones Futures dropped during the Asian market trading session on Thursday after a report of Ukrainian military firing mortars and grenades on Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) locations.

As of 12:50 local time in Thailand on February 17, 2022, Dow Jones Futures slipped 0.38% to 34,801.70 points. Meanwhile, S&P 500 Futures dropped 0.47% and Nasdaq Futures fell 0.58%.

Earlier today, Russian media Sputnik reported that the Ukrainian military had fired mortars and grenades at four localities in the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic at 2:30 a.m. GMT on Thursday.

The conflict in eastern Ukraine began in 2014 after a coup d’etat in Kiev. Donetsk and Lugansk refused to recognise the new Ukrainian government and proclaimed their independence from Ukraine.

Reuters reported, citing RIA news agency that Russian-backed rebels in eastern Ukraine accused Kyiv government forces on Thursday of using mortars to attack their territory, in violation of agreements aimed at ending the conflict.
