A powerful 7.3-magnitude quake shook east Japan on Wednesday night, sending a shockwave to the capital Tokyo and prompting a tsunami alert for parts of the northeast coast. The epicenter was off the coast of the Fukushima region at a depth of 60 kilometers.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, but at least two million households in Japan were left without power, including 700,000 in Tokyo.
