Kaohoon Morning Brief – 29 April 2024

Krungsri Securities (KSS) expected Thailand’s SET Index to move within the range of 1,350-1,370 points. Despite a positive sentiment from a moderate increase in US core PCE in March, the direction of  slower fund flows ahead of the Federal Reserve meeting this week could pressure the investment in the market.

 

Tesla CEO Elon Musk arrived in Beijing unannounced on Sunday with an expectation to discuss the rollout of Full Self-Driving (FSD) software and permission to transfer data overseas.

He met with China’s Premier Li Qiang in Beijing in which the premier said that the development of Tesla in China could be said that it is a successful example of the U.S.-China economic and trade cooperation.

 

In Monday morning trading in Asia, the Japanese yen has depreciated to 160 against the U.S. dollar, reaching its weakest level since April 1990 when it touched 160.15, according to FactSet data. This decline has been attributed to the ongoing strength of the U.S. dollar as Federal Reserve rate cut expectations are delayed. Friday saw the Fed’s preferred inflation measure slightly exceeding expectations, emphasizing the challenges faced by the U.S. central bank in addressing persistent inflation.
