Mr. Thitipat Nananukool, Assistant Managing Director of Finance & Accounting of CK Power Public Company Limited (SET: CKP), stated that the company notices the increase of clean energy demand from the industry sector and decided to focus its investment in that area, especially solar energy and hydropower.
However, in the next 2 – 3 years, CKP will continue to invest in the massive project of the company that signed the long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), but will look for an opportunity to expand its investment in solar energy and hydropower in the future. As of now, CKP’s current power-generating capacity is about 3,640 megawatts (MW).
One of the major projects CKP is involved with is the Luang Prabang Hydroelectric Power Project (LPCL) in Laos, in which CKP holds 50% of its shares. The project has a generating capacity of 1,460 MW. The Laos government has granted a concession for the company to design, develop, and operate the project to distribute power to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) for 35 years, starting on the first day of the commercial operation date (COD), which should be in early 2030.
As for the demand for electricity from the data center group, CKP found that it has been growing well, but in Thailand, it is difficult to make a long-term forecast. As for the short-term period, the company has not seen any significant growth. The use of electricity often increases along with the GDP’s growth, so when looking at the GDP this year and the next, the amount of electricity used is unlikely to have significant growth.
Regarding CKP’s 2Q25 and 1H25 performance, they have been doing well. The company generated a core net profit of about THB 353 million in the second quarter, an increase of 137.4% YoY, and THB 416.3 million in the first half of the year, an increase of 548.1% YoY. This development is due to the large amount of water that passes through the Xayaburi Hydroelectric Power Plant, which increased compared to the same period last year.
There is also a decrease in Xayaburi Power Company Limited (XPCL)’s financial cost that aligns with the global interest trend, allowing CKP to have higher revenue recognition from associates than last year, significantly.
The storm in July has increased the amount of water flowing into XPCL’s reservoir to 16,000 cubic meters per second. The company also has not closed its power plants yet this year. If there is a massive storm between August to September, the company may not need to stop its power generating process.
The operation of the company’s generator while facing large amounts of water this year is continuing smoothly compared to the previous year. If the water is below 20,000 cubic meters per second and remains between 16,000 – 18,000 cubic meters per second, there would not be any need to end the power generating process. Therefore, the company speculated that there should not be any concern like last year.
