Trump Indicates Preference for Seizing Iran’s Oil and Uranium

President Donald Trump has signaled interest in taking control of Iran’s oil resources, drawing comparisons to a similar U.S. operation in Venezuela earlier this year. Any such action would likely center on Kharg Island, which handles the majority of Iran’s oil exports.

Kharg Island is responsible for exporting approximately 90% of Iran’s crude oil. In March, U.S. forces launched strikes against the island, which Trump later described as having destroyed all designated military sites. He also indicated that further assaults could target Kharg’s oil infrastructure.

Trump revealed in an interview with the Financial Times that he favored the idea of taking Iran’s oil. He referenced the Venezuelan scenario, where the U.S. had asserted control over that country’s oil industry.

In addition, the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump is also considering a plan involving the removal of uranium from Iran. However, he has not reached a decision, citing concerns for the safety of U.S. personnel. Trump remains receptive to the concept, but has not finalized any directive.
