SET Index Fluctuates amid Pressure over DELTA and Tourism Sector

On Tuesday, Thailand’s SET Index closed the morning trading session at 1,471.61 points, showing a decrease of 7.52 points or 0.51%, with a trading value of THB 32.31 billion.

Mr. Vathan Jitsomnuk, Director of Strategy Analysis at Pi Securities, stated that the Thai stock market experienced significant volatility this morning, largely pressured by fluctuations in DELTA, which saw heightened swings after its price surged to THB 320, reaching a new all-time high before subsequently pulling back.

Despite DELTA’s outstanding first quarter 2026 performance—driven by increased demand from data center and AI sectors—its share price had climbed more than 7% from its recent low, prompting sell-on-fact actions among investors. There are also concerns that the sharp price gain could subject DELTA to the Cash Balance T2 regulatory threshold.

Simultaneously, shares in the tourism sector exhibited declines, most notably AOT and MINT. Shares of AOT dropped after the release of weekly tourist arrival figures, which returned to negative territory as the situation in the Middle East began to adversely affect the tourism industry. Elevated oil prices have also contributed to rising costs for airlines.

Meanwhile, MINT faced downward earnings revisions following an analyst meeting on Monday. Projections now indicate that MINT’s first quarter 2026 operating results may fall short of expectations due to increased expenses in Europe and a decrease in forward bookings.

For the afternoon session, Mr. Vathan anticipates the Thai bourse will continue to move within a range, with DELTA expected to remain volatile. The uncertainty in the Middle East is likely to persist, keeping markets on edge. The brokerage identified support and resistance levels at 1,465 and 1,485 points, respectively.
