Krung Thai Bank Public Company Limited (SET: KTB) has reported a resilient financial performance for the second quarter of 2026, with consolidated net profit reaching Baht 12,125 million. This represents a 9% increase compared to the same period in 2025, a result the bank attributes to prudent asset management and effective cost controls amid a challenging “K-shaped” economic recovery.
The bank’s bottom line grew even as total operating income dipped 6.7% YoY to Baht 37,480 million. A significant drag came from net interest income (NII), which fell 13.5% YoY to Baht 23,261 million. This decline was primarily driven by the cumulative impact of policy rate cuts—the MPC lowered the rate to 1.00% in February 2026—and the bank’s pre-emptive measures to assist customers with debt burdens. Consequently, the Net Interest Margin (NIM) stood at 2.45%. However, loan growth remained healthy, expanding 5.5% YoY, supported by demand in the retail, corporate, and government sectors.
To mitigate NII pressure, Krung Thai Bank successfully pivoted toward non-interest revenue streams. Net fee and service income surged 10.3% YoY to Baht 6,144 million, propelled by its wealth management strategic pillars: Digital, Product Innovation, and Scalable Distribution. Furthermore, the bank’s Cost to Income ratio improved significantly to 38.9%, down from 42.3% in 2Q2025. This efficiency was driven by comprehensive cost management and lower impairment losses on properties for sale, even as the bank continued investing in AI and digital capabilities.
Asset quality remained stable, with the bank maintaining a sound NPL ratio of 2.92%. Krung Thai Bank set aside Baht 6,620 million in expected credit losses (ECL), a 19.6% decrease from 2Q2025, resulting in a credit cost of 0.95%. Despite the lower provision amount, the bank maintained a robust coverage ratio of 205.2% to cushion against future geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainties. With a strong total capital adequacy ratio of 20.74% and the recent approval to launch Thailand’s first Virtual Bank, Krung Thai Bank appears well-positioned for sustainable growth.
