SET Index Sees Sideways Movement With Investor Caution Ahead of MSCI Rebalance

On Tuesday, Thailand’s SET Index closed the morning trading session at 1,619.65 points, showing a decrease of 4.71 points or 0.29%, with a trading value of THB 36.41 billion.

Yuanta Securities (Thailand) noted that the Thai stock market moved relatively sideways in early morning trading before declining due to sell-offs in DELTA, which had seen a strong upward movement yesterday. However, speculative buying in oil and petrochemical stocks provided significant support, helping to curb steeper losses in the market.

This support comes amid prolonged uncertainty in the Middle East, which has injected further unpredictability into global markets.

Meanwhile, with the Thai bourse set to be closed on Wednesday for the national Mother’s Day holiday, overall trading value has been subdued. Investors are awaiting the upcoming MSCI review results, set to be announced on the morning of 13 August.

Yuanta stated that there is a possibility that MSCI may increase the weighting of Thai stocks, as the market has outperformed the MSCI Asia ex Japan index. Year-to-date, the SET Index has gained 28%, which is expected to attract continued fund inflows and drive more stock-specific speculation.

For the afternoon session, the Thai stock market is expected to remain stable. Key support is identified at 1,615 points, with resistance at 1,625 points.

The five stocks with the highest trading values were as follows:
