SET Index Declines as Traders Eye Fed Chair Warsh’s Speech, Treasury Yields and Dollar Strength Remain in Focus

On Friday, Thailand’s SET Index closed the morning trading session at 1,589.08 points, showing a decrease of 11.62 points or 0.73%, with a trading value of THB 40.83 billion.

Maybank Securities (Thailand) stated that the Thai stock market consolidated in the morning as investors awaited the keynote address from U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole symposium tonight. The market is expected to adopt a wait-and-see approach this afternoon, as participants look for signals regarding future monetary policy direction.

This week, foreign fund inflows to the Thai market have slowed, and heavy selling pressure on large-cap stocks was observed this morning. However, Maybank emphasized that this is not indicative of foreign investors abandoning Thai equities, but rather a temporary risk reduction while awaiting greater clarity.

The brokerage noted that the Thai market had previously rallied significantly, and investors are now closely monitoring U.S. Treasury bond yields and the strength of the US dollar, both of which are likely to influence future fund flows.

In the afternoon session, the outlook is for the market to continue consolidating. The support and resistance levels are set at 1,580 and 1,600 points, respectively.
