US Futures Mixed as Oil Rebound Puts Pressure on Tech Earnings Optimism

U.S. equity futures were mixed early Wednesday as investors assessed a fresh batch of corporate results. Technology-linked contracts led the advance, while Dow futures showed little movement.

At 4:31 p.m. (Bangkok Time), S&P 500 futures rose 0.11%, and Nasdaq-100 futures climbed 0.38%. However, contracts tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged 0.11% lower.

The moves followed a positive session for much of the broader market. The Dow added almost 529 points, or 1.02%, helped by a rally in 3M after the company lifted its full-year profit outlook. 3M shares rose more than 5% after the update. The S&P 500 finished 0.28% higher, while the Nasdaq Composite closed slightly lower.

SpaceX was also active after hours, with shares rising more than 9% following its third-quarter results. The company reported revenue of $14.58 billion, up 161% from a year earlier and ahead of analyst forecasts. Net income was $4.4 billion, compared with a $1.1 billion loss in the prior-year period.

Elon Musk also indicated that SpaceX and Tesla may consider a combination, saying both companies had formed independent special committees to review a possible merger.

Energy markets remained in focus after a decline in oil prices on Tuesday helped support equities. Crude had previously reached six-month highs as traders monitored risks tied to potential Middle East supply disruptions.

Oil prices later recovered Wednesday. Brent crude rose 1.19% to $110.09 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate oil advanced 1.34% to $99.13.

Investors are now looking for further signals on artificial intelligence demand, with Meta Platforms scheduled to report after the market closes. Earlier this month, Meta introduced Muse Wonder, its newest AI model, available only to paying users.

Tesla, IBM and Southwest Airlines are also set to release earnings Wednesday.
