SK Hynix Leads Rally in S.Korea as Global AI Momentum Lifts Tech Sentiment

Technology shares in Asia climbed sharply on Tuesday, as investors looked to U.S. market gains fueled by key developments in the artificial intelligence sector. Robust activity in American technology stocks, following Anthropic’s planned IPO, SpaceX’s $40 billion AI-chip financing round with Apollo, and Meta’s new fundraising initiative targeting up to $95 billion for AI, translated into broad strength for their Asian counterparts.

South Korean chipmakers were among the session’s outperformers. Shares in SK Hynix advanced by around 7% to reach their highest level in two weeks, substantially outpacing the broader Kospi, which gained 4% during morning trade.

The rally came on the heels of a report by Dong-A Ilbo stating that the company was weighing a special dividend in the range of 16 trillion won ($12 billion), potentially financed by proceeds from its earlier stake in Japan’s Kioxia.

The Korean memory chip giant is also reportedly set to reveal additional shareholder return measures, valued between 50 trillion and 60 trillion won, as part of its third-quarter results on October 28.

On Monday, the technology sector led gains in the U.S. equity markets. The Dow rose by 0.3%, the S&P 500 gained 0.7%, and the Nasdaq outperformed, up 0.8%. Notable performances included Tesla, up over 5%, and Nvidia, up 2%, with other major tech firms also posting increases. These advances came despite concerns that aggressive spending on AI development may increase credit risks across data centers and the broader sector.

Anthropic, a central figure in the generative AI segment, provided details of its forthcoming public offering in a recent SEC filing. With plans to list under the symbol “ANT,” the company has reported rapid business expansion in 2026, driven by the strong uptake of its Claude models and associated services, especially the Claude Code AI coding tool as well as models like Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5.

Anthropic’s progress has been accompanied by scrutiny over its regulatory and national security policies, with two recent disputes involving U.S. officials. The anticipated IPO is set to follow SpaceX’s record $85.7 billion debut on the Nasdaq.
