Myanmar Court Adds 4-Year Jail Time to Aung San Suu Kyi

The verdict on Monday at the court in the capital of Naypyitaw, Myanmar, sentenced the 76-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi to an addition of four year in prison after finding her guilty of illegally importing and possessing walkie-talkies and violating Covid-19 restrictions.

Today’s verdict is a sentence among many of others a former State Counsellor of the National Unity Government of Myanmar received in the past years since the army seized power in February 2021 and ousted the National League for Democracy (NLD) party that Suu Kyi served as a State Counsellor.

It is still unclear where Aung San Suu Kyi has been held after all this time, but if found guilty of all charges stacking on her profile, she could be sentenced to more than 100 years in prison.
