Trump Eyes US-Iran Nuclear Talks Next Week

Before the ceasefire of the conflict between Israel and Iran, the U.S. intervened by dropping bunker-busters at three Iran nuclear program sites. U.S. President Donald Trump credited the attacks that led to this armistice and announced a nuclear talk with Iran next week.

Trump claimed that the attack destroyed Iran’s nuclear program and called it “a victory for everybody.” However, the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency previously pointed out that it was not the case and Iran could recover its program within months.

Later, the Director of the agency, John Ratcliffe, stated that the strike caused “severe damage” but did not mention whether the nuclear program had been destroyed. Still, Israel’s nuclear agency stated that the attack had set Iran’s nuclear weapons development back by many years.

On Wednesday, while attending a NATO summit, Trump stated the U.S. will talk with Iran next week, with a goal of never letting the Middle East nation rebuild its nuclear weapons development ever again. Still, for decades, Iran has repeatedly rejected accusations from Western countries that it is seeking to develop such weapons.

Although Trump did not have any details about the talk, he stated his confidence that Iran would opt for diplomatic engagement to restore relations. Meanwhile, the people of Israel and Iran are trying to adjust everything back to normal after 12 days of the highest hostilities between the two nations.
