Thai Army Urges Cambodia to Uphold Ceasefire amid Explosion Incident

Following an explosion incident at Chong Bok border area, which resulted in the injury of a Thai soldier, the Royal Thai Army spokesperson has disclosed the following update on the investigation.

Major General Winthai Suvaree, the Army spokesperson, stated that at 07:40 AM, the Suranaree Task Force, 2nd Army Area, has reported that an unidentified weapon was fired from the Cambodian side into Thai territory at Hill 469, Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. Upon further investigation, it was confirmed to be a mortar round fired from Cambodia, resulting in one Thai soldier sustaining minor injuries from shrapnel.

Afterward, the local unit was contacted by the Cambodian side, which claimed that the incident was not intentional but rather a mistake made during their personnel’s operations.

The Thai military unit in the area issued a warning to the Cambodian side to exercise caution and emphasized that if such errors occur again, the Thai armed force may be compelled to carry out defensive countermeasures in accordance with the rules of engagement and proportional use of force. Cambodia was urged to strictly adhere to ceasefire measures.

The Army spokesperson further stated that the Royal Thai Army has maintained its readiness and has prepared contingency plans for all possible scenarios to safeguard national sovereignty and ensure the safety of Thai citizens and their property along the Cambodian border. At present, the situation is under close surveillance.

The Royal Thai Army has reassured the public of the military’s management of the border situation. Currently, the situation is not considered alarming, and no further use of weapons has been detected in other areas. Residents along the border area can continue their daily lives as usual. Should the situation show signs of escalation, the Army will provide updates immediately.
