The Iranian President has signaled a potential end to the conflict, while U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested a military withdrawal could occur within two to three weeks.
U.S. President’s Stance and Timeline Simultaneously, President Donald Trump told the New York Post that the war with Iran is likely to conclude soon. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump stated, “We will be withdrawing soon,” specifying that this pullout could happen within two or three weeks. “We leave because there’s no reason for us to do this,” added Trump while saying that the U.S. does not need to make a deal with Iran as the U.S. has completed what it came to do, which is destroying Iran’s nuclear power.
Trump argued that the burden of securing the Strait of Hormuz belongs to the nations that rely on it, stating there is “no reason” for U.S. involvement. He suggested that countries like France, or whoever else utilizes the waterway, should take over that responsibility.
Iranian President’s Position President Masoud Pezeshkian indicated a readiness to end hostilities with both the United States and Israel. According to reports citing the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Pezeshkian stated that Iran possesses the necessary intention to resolve the conflict, but this is contingent upon receiving security guarantees and protecting national interests. His primary conditions for peace include the prevention of future aggression and ensuring the safety and benefits of the Iranian people.
While these signals point toward a de-escalation, other reports suggest that Tehran has previously dismissed some Washington proposals as lacking sincerity and has maintained a stance against direct negotiations.
