CP Axtra Partners with Wastebuy Delivery to Recover 2.2 Million Bottles by 2025

CP AXTRA Public Company Limited (SET: CPAXT), operator of the wholesale and retail businesses “makro–Lotus’s,” continues to reinforce its commitment to sustainability through proper waste separation under the “AXTRA Green Together” campaign.

The company has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Wastebuy Delivery to promote accurate and sustainable plastic bottle sorting across Thai society. This collaboration focuses on managing plastic bottles throughout the entire value chain from collection and sorting to delivery into certified recycling processes through the main activity “Collect & Return for a Sustainable World.” The project aims to collect more than 2.2 million plastic bottles by the end of 2025 and includes the handover of Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Mr.Surin Worakijthamrong, Director of Pollution Control Department, stated: “Plastic waste management is a key mission that the Pollution Control Department has continuously undertaken. The department serves as a leading agency in establishing correct sorting systems from upstream to downstream, encouraging staff participation in waste separation, which helps reduce national waste disposal burdens and enhances recycling efficiency. This collaboration with CP AXTRA and partners marks an important step toward elevating Thailand’s waste management standards sustainably. It not only increases plastic bottle return points and expands sorting systems to the public but also raises awareness about proper waste separation. With continuous cooperation from all sectors, Thailand will be able to significantly reduce plastic waste and progress toward a low-carbon society under a circular economy.”

Mrs. Siriporn Dechsingha, Chief Corporate Sustainability and Communication Officer, CP AXTRA Public Company Limited, said: “Throughout the past year, CP AXTRA has driven the ‘AXTRA Zero Waste’ initiative under the AXTRA Green Together concept, focusing on continuous waste sorting and resource efficiency. The initiative has been well-received by customers, communities, and partners across all sectors, resulting in tangible achievements.

With an even more ambitious target for 2025 to collect over 2,200,000 plastic bottles, we aim to reduce landfill waste and maximize recycling. This will be achieved through comprehensive plastic bottle waste management across the entire chain, from collection and sorting to standardized recycling, supported by the ‘Collect & Return’ activity, which comprises three key approaches:

  • Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) for returning clear PET bottles, installed at 21 Makro and Lotus’s locations
  • Drop Points for plastic bottle collection, totaling 138 locations nationwide, for public convenience
  • Weekend Recycle Market – “Love the Earth, Earn Income,” promoting the circular economy and adding value to recyclable materials, held every Saturday–Sunday at 11 Makro and Lotus’s branches

The projected 2,200,000 collected plastic bottles—equivalent to 37,400 kilograms—will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 38,599 kgCO₂e, compared to landfilling, or the equivalent of planting 4,059 trees.”

Dr. Itthikon Srichanban, Chairman of Wastebuy Delivery Co., Ltd., added: “Westby Delivery is delighted to partner with CP AXTRA in advancing systematic plastic waste management through Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) technology and comprehensive recycling solutions. These innovations make waste sorting easier and more accessible for the public. This collaboration represents a major milestone in fostering sustainable sorting habits across society. We believe that integrating the strengths of private sector partners will generate meaningful environmental outcomes, reducing plastic waste, increasing recycling rates, and creating new value from used materials. Westby is ready to support and continuously drive the long-term growth of this project.”

This collaboration reflects CP AXTRA’s strong commitment to advancing sustainability in partnership with the government, while empowering the public to contribute through small actions that create a significant positive impact on Thailand’s environment.
