Thailand Dismisses Trump’s Claims and Rejects Cambodian Bid to Relocate Meeting Venue

As ASEAN plans to hold emergency discussions on December 24, 2025 in an effort to revive a ceasefire agreement, U.S. President Donald Trump has come under scrutiny for alleging that Thailand initiated the recent hostilities on the Thai-Cambodian border.

In response to international media queries regarding Trump’s comments, Thai Caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul clarified Thailand’s position, stating that the situation is already widely understood. “We are not concerned. Thailand was the party that was invaded and attacked. Our actions were merely to defend our sovereignty,” Anutin told reporters.

Meanwhile, efforts to organize diplomatic discussions encountered a setback after a senior Thai security official disclosed that Thailand had rejected a proposal from Cambodia to shift the upcoming General Border Committee (GBC) meeting from Chanthaburi to Kuala Lumpur. The comment came after Agence France-Presse reported that Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Seiha had requested the venue change.
