Thailand’s SET Index Stays Range-Bound amid Low Trading Volume

Mr. Kitpon Praipaisarnkit, Senior Executive Vice President at UOB Kay Hian Securities (Thailand), stated that the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Index closed the morning session higher by 0.47%, or 6.73 points, at 1,444.82 points, after moving within a narrow sideways range, while trading volume tended to decrease.

This followed the closure of some regional stock markets during the Chinese New Year festival. In addition, there is a lack of short-term driving factors, resulting in speculative trading in specific stocks.

Nonetheless, the overall market is supported by the banking sector after it responded positively to the anticipated upward revision of Thailand’s GDP forecast for 2026 and the onset of dividend announcements. Meanwhile, Thaicom PCL (SET: THCOM) rose as its price still lags behind the ICT sector.

Energy stocks are facing selling pressure in the short term, as investors remain concerned about discussions between Iran and the United States, leading to a cautious stance. Many stocks are approaching resistance levels, prompting further selling.

This afternoon, the market is expected to continue moving sideways. The recommended investment strategy is to focus on laggard stocks, while maintaining caution toward the energy sector in the short term. The support and resistance levels are set at 1,435 and 1,445 points, respectively.
