Ongoing conflict in the Middle East has entered its third week, revealing significant inconsistencies in American foreign policy. President Donald Trump publicly suggested winding down military activity, yet evolving events point to a substantial U.S. escalation both militarily and financially.
Although President Trump indicated plans to scale back military involvement via social media, the United States has recently bolstered its presence in the region by sending additional warships and Marines. At the same time, the administration has requested a further $200 billion from Congress to support continued operations.
Hostilities in the region have intensified following an Israeli operation targeting Iran’s South Pars natural gas site. Iran responded by launching drone and missile strikes against targets in Israel as well as Saudi oil infrastructure.
When asked about ending the fighting, President Trump dismissed the idea of a ceasefire, stressing that such action was inappropriate while one side was suffering heavy losses. He also reiterated that other countries should assume responsibility for protecting the Strait of Hormuz.
