Hundreds Dead, Thousands Injured as Afghanistan Scrambles to Assess Earthquake Impact

Roughly 500 people have lost their lives and another 1,000 have been injured following a significant 6.0 magnitude earthquake that shook eastern Afghanistan on Monday, according to a report by the national broadcaster, Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA).

Health officials under the Taliban administration in Kabul noted that the final tally of casualties has yet to be confirmed, as teams continue efforts to access hard-to-reach regions impacted by the disaster. Authorities are working to gather accurate figures amidst the challenging logistics of surveying some of the country’s most remote areas.
