Thai Cabinet Approves Flat-Rate Daily Passes for Red and Purple Lines

Today (25 November 2025), Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, stated that the Cabinet meeting approved the implementation of the daily flat-rate ticket measures proposed by the Ministry of Transport (MoT).

This measure applies to the Red Line electric train lines, both the Nakhon Withi line (Krung Thep Aphiwat – Taling Chan) and the Thani Ratthaya line (Krung Thep Aphiwat – Rangsit), and sets to implement from 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2026 or until there is a resolution to change.

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is authorized to request budget allocation from the national budget to compensate for the fare difference according to actual revenue shortfalls, in line with the State Fiscal and Financial Disciplines Act,. B.E. 2561 (2018).

In addition, the Cabinet acknowledged the daily flat-rate ticket measure for the MRT Chalong Ratchadham Line (Purple Line) operated by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), which will be implemented at the same period, from 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2026.

The Cabinet also assigned MoT to annually assess the results of these measures, considering relevant factors such as passenger volume, revenue, state compensation burden, and public travel convenience. This is to provide information for further consideration on whether to proceed with long-term measures.

The daily flat-rate ticket measure will begin on 1 December 2025 to ensure public transportation continuity after the measure limiting the maximum fare to THB 20 for the entire Red and Purple lines ends on 30 November 2025.

The Prime Minister’s spokesperson stated that, under this new measure, the maximum daily fare for the general public is set at THB 40 per day, while students pay THB 30 per day. Eligibility conditions require the use of the specified EMV Contactless Card.
