In a major push to redefine the relationship between the state and the private sector, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is set to host a landmark summit today, May 15, titled “Entrepreneurs Speak, Government Listens.”
The Prime Minister’s Office announced yesterday that the forum aims to transition the government’s role from a mere “regulator” to a “strategic economic partner.” The event, scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM at Government House, will feature over 30 top executives from 10 pivotal industrial sectors.
The Titans of Thai Industry
The guest list represents a significant portion of Thailand’s GDP, featuring chairmen and CEOs from the nation’s largest conglomerates. According to Government Spokesperson Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, key attendees include:
- CP Group: Mr. Dhanin Chearavanont (Senior Chairman) and Mr. Suphachai Chearavanont (Senior Vice Chairman).
- Energy & Infrastructure: Mr. Sarath Ratanavadi (CEO of Gulf Development) and Mr. Kongkrapan Intarajang (CEO and President of PTT).
- Retail & Consumer Goods: Mr. Vathit Chokwatana (Managing Director of Saha Pathanapibul), Mr. Suthisarn Chirathivat (CEO of Central Retail Corporation), and Ms. Supaluck Umpujh (Chairwoman of The Mall Group).
- Logistics & Industrial Estates: Ms. Jareeporn Jarukornsakul (CEO of WHA Corporation).
- Construction & Heavy Industry: Mr. Thammasak Sethaudom (President of SCC) and Mr. Plew Trivisvavet (Executive Chairman of CH. Karnchang).
A Platform for Direct Dialogue
Ms. Ratchada emphasized that the Prime Minister’s vision is to lead an “accessible government” that works in tandem with the private sector. The forum is designed to be a transparent space where business leaders can voice concerns and offer candid perspectives on the future of the Thai economy without filters.
The government has requested feedback across four critical areas:
- Urgent Missions: Immediate actions the government must take to stabilize the economy.
- Strategic Foundations: Long-term policy frameworks for the next four years.
- Regulatory Reform: Identification of outdated laws or regulations that should be abolished to enhance ease of doing business.
- The “CEO Confidence Index”: Direct feedback on the administration’s ability to drive national competitiveness over the next 12 months.
A Shift in Governance
“This dialogue is a significant development in the government’s efforts to elevate its relationship with the private sector to that of economic partners,” Ms. Ratchada stated. “By listening directly to those at the helm of our core industries, the government can formulate policies and measures that accurately address the realities of the economic landscape.”
The results of today’s discussions are expected to serve as a blueprint for upcoming cabinet resolutions, as the Anutin administration seeks to accelerate Thailand’s recovery and global competitiveness.
