Asian Stock Markets Trade Higher on Slower-Than-Expected Chinese Inflation

Asian stocks traded higher on Wednesday, following a surge in Wall Street last night and a report of slower-than-expected Chinese inflation this morning.

As of 10:41 local time in Thailand on February, 16, 2022, Nikkei jumped 2.10%, SSEC gained 0.69%, Hang Seng Index increased 1.21%, ASX 200 rose 0.83% and IDX Composite advanced 0.43%.

Thailand’s SET Index is closed for holiday.

China’s consumer price index for January rose 0.9% compared to the same period of last year. The increase was slightly lower than expectations of Reuters poll for a 1.0% increase.

Wall Street also closed higher last night after the Russian Defense Ministry reportedly announced that some troops had begun returning to deployment bases after training exercises near the Ukrainian border.

Dow Jones closed 1.22% higher at 34,988.84 points. Meanwhile, S&P 500 increased 1.58% and Nasdaq jumped 2.53%.
