On May 6th, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra chaired the first National Energy Policy Council (NEPC) meeting for 2025, with Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, alongside relevant agencies in attendance.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister posted on social media about the critical impact of energy prices on both the population’s living costs and broader economic foundations.
The NEPC emphasized the need for all parties to closely monitor these issues to mitigate public expenses. Further steps involve evaluating investment returns and structuring pathways for clean energy, aligning with both social responsibility and global agenda priorities.
The Prime Minister urged the swift revision of criteria for purchasing clean energy, aiming to allow private sectors direct engagement in power purchase agreements (Direct PPA), ensuring competitive pricing internationally.
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is tasked with regulating energy prices by adjusting the Ft charge from May to August 2025, not exceeding 3.98 baht per unit.
Similarly, the ERC, along with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and PTT Public Company Limited (SET: PTT), was requested to maintain September to December 2025 rates under THB 3.99 per unit, barring significant changes in fuel costs.
Moreover, the completion of a new energy plan is urged to enable prudent and appropriate planning for further renewable energy procurement.
Krungsri Securities Public Company Limited (KSS) highlighted the Prime Minister’s directive to stabilize electricity prices at THB 3.99 per unit until year’s end, aligning with the current rate of THB 3.98 baht per.
This stability is a positive signal for power plant stocks, particularly those with substantial Small Power Producer (SPP) industrial clients, such as Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited (SET: GPSC) and B.Grimm Power Public Company Limited (SET: BGRIM).
KSS recommends speculative trades for GPSC with a support target of THB 30.5-31, resistance at THB 32-34, and a stop-loss at THB 29. For BGRIM, the support level is THB 11-11.2, resistance at THB 11.8-12.6, and a stop-loss at THB 10.6.
