Dr. Veerapol Khemarangsan, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of MEDEZE Group Public Company Limited (SET: MEDEZE), recently spoke at the “Market’s New Magnet” forum organized by Kaohoon Daily Newspaper. He explained that the concept of stem cell banking has gained increasing popularity worldwide, particularly in the United States, Europe, Germany, Japan, and South Korea. In Asia, interest in this medical advancement is also on the rise.
Dr. Veerapol noted, “Today, we have the technology to produce babies via in vitro fertilization (IVF), and we can freeze sperm or eggs for later use—even after 30 years. So why can’t we preserve our own stem cells today for future application? In medical science, freezing stem cells is essentially like pausing the ‘biological clock.'”
He continued to emphasize that the ultimate factor of quality of life lies in “our very own cells.” No matter how far the field of medicine advances in terms of pharmaceuticals or biologics, nothing can fully replace the effectiveness of using one’s own cells to repair the body. For the past 15 years, there has been a continuous campaign encouraging parents to bank their newborns’ stem cells, as those collected from birth retain the characteristics of “zero-aged cells,” maintaining their pristine quality even when the individual reaches 20, 30, or 50 years old.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Veerapol revealed MEDEZE’s goal of reaching 1 billion baht in revenue and advancing into the biopharmaceutical sector. The company is focusing research efforts on treatments for osteoarthritis and skin regeneration after being approved as one of the pioneering companies in the ATMPs (Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products) Sandbox program, under Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health and Department of Disease Control. MEDEZE aspires to position Thailand as a Medical and Wellness Center for the region.
The company is committed to leveraging the Health Economy as a key driver for Thailand’s future economic growth. “We believe Thailand has the potential to become the region’s center for medical and health services,” Dr. Weerapon said. He envisions that Europeans and Japanese retirees should choose to spend their post-retirement years in Thailand, benefitting from world-class healthcare services and the country’s safety. With a low cost of living combined with high-quality medical services, Thailand is set to become an increasingly attractive destination.
From a business perspective, MEDEZE initially focused on establishing itself as a leader in the BioBank segment, not directly entering the biopharmaceutical industry. However, in the next five years, the company is confident of achieving average annual profit growth of at least 25%. Should the biopharmaceutical endeavor succeed, the growth rate is expected to rise significantly.
“We focus not just on high revenue, but also on stable cash flow, business security, and happiness for both the organization and society at large. We continue to foster innovations driven by imagination and creativity to create new value for the country,” Dr. Veerapol concluded.
