Mr. Nopadej Karnasuta, President of Thailand, Malaysia and Energy & Industrial Solutions Business at B.Grimm Power Public Company Limited (SET: BGRIM), stated that the company, in collaboration with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and PEA ENCOM International Company Limited, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to supply electricity and develop energy systems for data centers, as well as to foster the development of the data center business in Thailand.
The signing of this agreement aims to enhance cooperation in creating a stable electricity system and providing suitable and competitive electricity pricing models for data centers to attract investors and support business investment in data centers within Thailand. It also seeks to develop free power trading approaches via PEA’s transmission and distribution systems and PEA ENCOM’s platforms, such as Direct Power Purchase Agreements (Direct PPA), Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (Virtual PPA), and Sleeved Power Purchase Agreements (Sleeve PPA), to foster a sustainable transition to clean energy and reduce the long-term environmental footprint.
Furthermore, the cooperation aims to establish efficient energy management guidelines for data centers, fostering joint electricity supply between PEA and independent power plants to enhance power plant efficiency and natural gas utilization for supporting data center investments. This can be further expanded into joint ventures for developing various types of power plants and other businesses related to the data center sector. It also targets developing free power trading models through PEA’s transmission and distribution networks and private electricity grids within project areas to facilitate a sustainable transition to clean energy.
Meanwhile, BGRIM aims to expand its investment to reach 10,000 megawatts (MW) of generation capacity from operational and under-development projects by 2030, with over 50% of this being renewable energy. The company targets achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050.
Currently, the data center market in the Asia-Pacific region is growing rapidly. BGRIM, as one of Thailand’s leading independent power producers, is committed to driving the transition towards renewable energy in the data center industry. By collaborating with strong global partners, BGRIM provides comprehensive energy solutions, offering smart systems, renewable energy, and energy storage. In particular, “renewable energy” plays a vital role in powering data centers and strengthening energy security.
