According to the analysis from Krungsri Securities today (November 17, 2025), the Chinese government issued a travel warning advising citizens against traveling to Japan due to safety concerns, as diplomatic relations between the two countries have become strained over the Taiwan issue.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi stated during a parliamentary session that Japan would send weapons and troops to Taiwan if China launched military aggression. Several Chinese airlines, such as Air China, China Eastern, and China Southern Airlines, announced that passengers could request full refunds on tickets to Japan until year-end.
Krungsri Securities viewed that (1) escalating diplomatic tensions will impact investment sentiment in both countries. If the situation worsened, it could negatively affect global tech stocks, as Taiwan is the world’s number one semiconductor producer.
The brokerage also viewed (2) the Chinese government’s travel warning as a positive psychological factor for Thailand’s tourism sector, as Chinese tourists may shift from Japan to other countries, especially Thailand.
Prior to COVID-19, Thailand welcomed 11 million Chinese tourists—more than Japan’s 9.6 million. This year to date, Thailand has attracted only 3.87 million Chinese visitors, about 40% below pre-COVID levels, as more Chinese tourists travel domestically or choose Japan and Vietnam over Thailand.
This travel warning thus benefits Thailand’s tourism sector, especially the entire travel supply chain, such as AOT, BA, CENTEL, ERW, and Minor International Public Company Limited (SET: MINT). For tourism stocks, the top picks are CENTEL and ERW, with 2026 targets of THB 37 and 3.20 per share, respectively.
