Thai Airways Expands Fleet with Four New Boeing 787-9s by Year-End

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (SET: THAI) is moving forward to enhance its fleet capacity in response to the growth of the travel market and to improve operational efficiency. The company received a new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on June 22, 2026, with plans to introduce a total of four Boeing 787-9s into service by the end of 2026.

Chai Eamsiri, Chief Executive Officer, stated that the introduction of the Boeing 787-9 represents another significant step in upgrading THAI’s fleet to one that is both modern and efficient, aligned with market demands and the company’s long-term growth strategy.

Expanding the number of aircraft of the same model within the fleet will enable THAI to achieve fleet commonality, allowing for more streamlined fleet management, increased operational flexibility, and enhanced service on high-potential routes. This supports THAI’s growth opportunities within the aviation industry and elevates the travel experience for passengers worldwide.

The Boeing 787-9 is a wide-body, long-haul aircraft featuring advanced technology and offers up to 20% better fuel efficiency compared with its predecessor, aligning with THAI’s sustainable fleet development goals.

The cabin of THAI’s Boeing 787-9 is designed with two classes: 30 fully flat Royal Silk class (business class) seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, and 268 Economy class seats arranged 3-3-3 with 120-degree recline.

Cabin products have been updated in line with the existing Boeing 787-9 fleet, with enhanced onboard features. These include an in-flight entertainment system with 17.3 inch screens in business class and 13.3 inch screens in economy class, as well as onboard Wi-Fi connectivity to improve the passenger experience throughout the journey.

This delivery of the Boeing 787-9 highlights THAI’s commitment to strengthening its service capabilities, enhancing competitiveness, and connecting Thailand with key destinations around the world.
