U.S. equity futures climbed on Tuesday, accompanied by a modest uptick in oil prices, as investors weighed unclear progress in the U.S.-Iran diplomatic talks. Attention also turned to upcoming corporate earnings, key for market direction following Monday’s record closes.
At 4:52 p.m. (Bangkok Time), futures tracking the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.1%, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.13%. Contracts on the Nasdaq-100 outperformed with a 0.64% rise.
During Monday’s regular session, the main U.S. benchmarks finished higher, led by a record close for the Dow. Amazon achieved a new milestone by surpassing $3 trillion in market capitalization, while Nvidia, Meta Platforms, Alphabet, and Microsoft stocks all advanced significantly.
Oil markets saw prices recover following a sharp decline the previous day. Brent crude increased 2.52% to reach $85.88 per barrel, and West Texas Intermediate climbed 1.9% to $81.87.
The rebound in crude coincides with lingering uncertainty over the U.S.-Iran talks. President Donald Trump described the U.S. approach as Iran’s “last chance,” after Iranian officials stated they were only in dialogue with Oman and not engaged directly with Washington. Past setbacks have led investors to approach any potential breakthrough with caution.
Looking ahead, the focus turns to quarterly results due from major corporations such as Caterpillar and McDonald’s, as well as post-market figures from semiconductor firm AMD. SpaceX is also scheduled to announce its first public earnings results after the market closes.
Investors will also analyze the latest U.S. job openings data for June, set to be released later in the session.
