President Donald Trump on Thursday backed Micron Technology’s plan to commit $10 billion to research labs in the United States, framing the project as part of a wider domestic semiconductor push.
Micron said last week that the funding would be spent over the next decade on a research institution designed to address challenges in the memory supply chain. The planned Micron Research Labs are expected to connect universities, government, semiconductor companies and customers in work focused on chip architecture and fabrication.
Trump highlighted the commitment in a Truth Social post, describing Micron as one of the world’s standout companies and saying the new facilities would support U.S. leadership in AI-related technologies and advanced computing. He also said the $10 billion project adds to previous U.S. commitments by Micron that are valued at $250 billion.
The president said Micron’s broader expansion would create tens of thousands of jobs. He credited his administration’s policies for encouraging major corporate investments in the U.S., saying companies were committing trillions of dollars domestically.
Attracting semiconductor and advanced technology manufacturing to the U.S. has been a central part of Trump’s economic agenda. His administration has also focused on reducing dependence on overseas supply chains for critical technologies.
Micron expects to begin construction next year on the flagship campus for the research labs in Boise, Idaho, the company’s hometown.
