On Thursday, Professor Dr. Prasit Watanapa, First Vice President of the Medical Council of Thailand, revealed details following a meeting of the Medical Council Executive Board.
The main agenda was to consider the veto raised by Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, Minister of Public Health, who, in his capacity as Honorary President, objected to the disciplinary resolution against three doctors involved in the treatment of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on the 14th floor of the Police General Hospital.
According to Professor Dr. Prasit, 68 out of 69 eligible board members were present at the meeting. More than two-thirds reaffirmed the original resolution made on June 8, 2025.
The decision involves issuing a warning to one doctor and suspending the medical licenses of the other two—all of whom are from the Department of Corrections and the Police General Hospital.
They were determined to have failed to meet professional medical standards and to have delivered incorrect medical information. The Council concluded there was no clear evidence indicating that the patient was in critical condition.
Following these developments, the Medical Council is expected to formally issue orders in line with the resolution by June 13, 2025.
Regarding the group chat circulating on the LINE application that purports to involve the Medical Council, Professor Dr. Prasit clarified that the group is not affiliated with the official board and has no association with the meeting procedures or decision-making process.
Additionally, prior to today’s decision, the Medical Council had reportedly listened to a 15-minute explanation from Mr. Somsak regarding his reasons for the veto.
