Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, who also serves as the head of Thailand’s trade negotiation committee with the United States (Team Thailand), disclosed that the negotiation team is working around the clock with only one day left before the deadline.
Mr. Pichai reported that Thailand had already responded to U.S. proposals on July 29, and ongoing talks are focused on fine-tuning specific, sensitive issues in the agreement. He further stated that today, Thailand will submit another response to the U.S.—potentially the final one.
“We are doing everything we can, even though it is quite difficult. But we expect to send another round this evening, which I believe will be the final submission,” Mr. Pichai said.
Mr. Pichai added that with only one day remaining before the August 1 deadline, the team has worked tirelessly to refine Thailand’s proposals and secure a clear conclusion. However, he cautioned that it is still not certain whether a response from the U.S. will be received before the deadline passes.
Regarding tensions at the Thailand-Cambodia border, Mr. Pichai acknowledged that there have been some economic impacts. However, he emphasized that these issues have not become an obstacle to ongoing negotiations with the United States.
