PM Anutin Outlines Plans to Address Thailand’s 4 Urgent Concerns

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul delivered a statement following the Royal Gazette officially appointing him as Thailand’s new Prime Minister.

Expressing his profound gratitude for the royal benevolence of His Majesty the King, Anutin acknowledged the inherent constraints in government administration. However, he affirmed his unwavering commitment to dedicating his utmost effort—both physically and intellectually—to expedite Thailand’s emergence from its current crisis as swiftly as possible.

Anutin extended heartfelt thanks to members of the House of Representatives who voted their confidence in him, singling out the People’s Party for their sacrificial support to find a resolution for the nation, even as they returned to their original opposition mandate afterward.

He also acknowledged the coalition parties, including the KLATHAM Party, Palang Pracharath Party, New Democracy Party, and members from other parties who collaborated in forming the government to serve the Thai people.

The new Prime Minister outlined four urgent priorities for national problem-solving:

1) Economic Relief: The government will expedite efforts to reduce the cost of living, transportation, electricity and energy, and logistics costs. Measures will also be sought to assist farmers and low-income earners with debt relief, stimulate new income for entrepreneurs, and strengthen local economies and grassroots communities.

2) National Security: Anutin stated he would rely on peaceful methods to address the Thai-Cambodian border disputes, assuring that Thailand would not cede even a single square centimeter of territory. He emphasized the need for swift and comprehensive compensation for those affected along the border areas.

3) Disaster Management: Anutin pledged to enhance disaster warning and prevention systems, as well as support and rehabilitation for victims, drawing on experience from his tenure as Minister of Interior. Cooperation among civilians, police, military, and local administration will be emphasized to ensure seamless aid and genuine justice for the public.

4) Social Threats: The government aims to crack down seriously on narcotics, gambling, and online crime, working with neighboring countries and international partners to eliminate these threats.

Anutin underscored that his administration would not interfere with the judicial process, instead allowing mechanisms prescribed under the constitution and law to function transparently and equitably. The government will accelerate information disclosure to build public confidence.

He also announced plans to push for constitutional amendments and the drafting of a new constitution as per the people’s will within a four-month timeframe, after which the power to determine the nation’s future will be returned to the people themselves.

Lastly, Anutin stressed that during his four months in office, his administration would not rest, would take no vacation, and would devote unflagging effort to move the country forward. The aim is to lay a solid foundation for the subsequent government to continue building sustainable prosperity, security, and unity for the Thai people. Anutin pledged to serve the nation with integrity, honesty, and loyalty to the monarchy.
