Trump to Use Venezuela’s Oil Proceeds “Only” for US Product Purchases

Venezuela will exclusively buy American products with revenue generated from its oil sales, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday via Truth Social. The declaration follows recent US actions that included an intervention in Venezuela and the subsequent capture of President Nicolás Maduro.

President Trump revealed that, under US stewardship during a transitional period, Washington will oversee Venezuela’s operations and facilitate efforts to revive its oil industry. Interim Venezuelan authorities, he said, are prepared to deliver between 30 million and 50 million barrels of crude oil to the United States. According to Trump, these shipments will be sold at prevailing market prices, with the funds administered by himself as US President to ensure that proceeds benefit both Venezuelan and American interests.

Speaking on the specific areas of American exports to Venezuela, Trump cited plans to purchase agricultural commodities, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and technology aimed at modernizing Venezuela’s energy infrastructure. The president underlined the South American nation’s commitment to forging closer business ties with the United States as its main trading partner.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that certain sanctions imposed on Venezuela are being lifted to permit the flow of oil to the US. “Yes, the U.S. is selectively rolling back sanctions to enable the transport and the sale of Venezuelan crude and oil products to the global markets,” Leavitt told reporters Wednesday.

Washington’s sanctions targeting the Maduro regime were designed to exert economic pressure on Venezuela’s previous leadership, she noted.
