On March 10, 2026, Ms. Airin Phanrit, Deputy Spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, stated that the Cabinet has approved the draft Royal Decree on the Convocation of the National Assembly, B.E. 2569 (2026) (The specific date for the assembly convocation has not yet been set), as proposed by the Secretariat of the Cabinet.
For determining the actual date to convene the National Assembly, the Secretariat of the Cabinet will coordinate with the Office of the Election Commission, the Secretariat of the House of Representatives, and the Office of the Privy Council once 95% of the total Members of the House of Representatives (475 members) have been elected. The draft Royal Decree will then be submitted to His Majesty the King for Royal assent.
Ms. Airin stated that according to Section 83 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand, the House of Representatives consists of 500 members, with 400 members elected from constituencies and 100 from party lists. Section 84 stipulates that once at least 95% of the total members are elected, a meeting of the National Assembly can be convened.
Moreover, Section 85, paragraph four, requires the Election Commission to announce the election results after a preliminary review confirms the elections were honest and fair, within 60 days from the election date, which will be concluded by April 8, 2026. Section 121, paragraph one, requires the National Assembly to be convened within 15 days after the election results are announced (by April 22, 2026).
Furthermore, Section 122, paragraphs one, two, and four, prescribe that His Majesty the King shall summon, open, and close the National Assembly sessions. His Majesty shall preside over the official opening ceremony of the first annual ordinary session in person or may delegate a qualified heir or another representative to perform the ceremony on his behalf.
