The United States has proposed a short-term suspension of sanctions on Iran’s oil industry while diplomatic discussions continue, according to a report from Iran’s Tasnim news agency citing a source familiar with the negotiation process. This adjustment marks a shift from prior proposals, with the temporary waiver offered during ongoing talks.
A source close to Iran’s negotiating delegation indicated that the latest American draft features a notable change, allowing the temporary easing of oil-related sanctions as discussions progress. While the United States suggests this relief would last throughout the negotiation period, Iran maintains its demand for a complete removal of all sanctions as part of any eventual agreement.
The report also noted that Pakistan is facilitating communication, having delivered Iran’s revised proposal back to the US side. Iran’s updated position focuses primarily on bringing about an end to the conflict and includes what Tehran refers to as measures designed to build trust with Washington.
Earlier on Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, confirmed that indirect talks continue with US officials through Pakistan’s mediation efforts.
