Dr. Kongkrapan Intarajang, President and CEO of PTT Public Company Limited (SET: PTT), joined a panel discussion at “Gastech 2025”—the world’s premier energy technology conference and exhibition focusing on natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, climate technologies, and artificial intelligence—held at Fiera Milano, Milan, Italy. This event marks a significant milestone in advancing the company’s vision of “TOGETHER FOR SUSTAINABLE THAILAND, SUSTAINABLE WORLD,” highlighting PTT’s alignment with global energy trends on an international stage.
Dr. Kongkrapan participated in the panel “Energy Security through Transformation: A Vital Force for Progress in a Rapidly Changing World,” alongside key energy and technology leaders: Mr. Jack Fusco, President & CEO of Cheniere Energy; Mr. Musabbeh Al Kaabi, CEO Upstream of ADNOC; Mr. Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman, President & CEO of Baker Hughes; and Mr. Takayuki Ueda, President & CEO of INPEX.
In his remarks, Dr. Kongkrapan highlighted the importance of energy security for both Southeast Asia and Thailand. He described natural gas as a “Destination Fuel,” playing a pivotal role in the ongoing clean energy transition by supporting greenhouse gas reduction efforts. Natural gas, he noted, is a stable and cleaner alternative to other fossil fuels, with global regions increasingly prioritizing LNG for its flexibility in global delivery, long-term contract and spot market trading mechanisms, and role in increasing energy security in the face of growing demand.
He emphasized, “The direction of global energy should address the Energy Trilemma: energy security, affordability, and environmental sustainability. Energy security is particularly crucial in Southeast Asia, where economic expansion and a transition away from coal-fired power are driving a surge in natural gas demand. Over the long term, renewable energy use will also rise, but with domestic gas production declining across the region, ASEAN is expected to become a net LNG importer by 2032.”
Dr. Kongkrapan added that this shift will accelerate infrastructure development—such as new LNG Receiving Terminals—which are critical to developing the region’s natural gas market. Thailand, he remarked, has consistently developed its gas infrastructure and is well-positioned to become the region’s energy hub.
Dr. Kongkrapan further noted that Southeast Asia’s strong emphasis on energy security encourages strategic LNG procurement and regional infrastructure collaboration. This creates a mechanism for fair and balanced energy pricing for both buyers and sellers and supports technology partnerships aimed at decarbonization, positioning natural gas as a competitive, long-term energy solution.
Gastech 2025 will be held from September 9–12, 2025, in Italy under the theme “Powering a Sustainable Energy Future.” The event brings together key public and private sector figures, leading energy companies, investors, and innovators to accelerate the global transition towards sustainable energy, amid increasing geopolitical volatility and carbon-reduction pressure.
Looking forward, in 2026, PTT and its subsidiaries are set to support Thailand’s opportunity to host Gastech 2026 at Bangkok’s BITEC from September 15–18, 2026. With more than 50,000 attendees, over 1,000 exhibitors, and over 1,000 expert speakers from around the globe, Gastech 2026 aims to advance Thailand’s energy sector ecosystem, ensuring its stability and sustainability in the face of future change.
