On Tuesday, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, hinted on the social media ‘X’ that Starlink’s rollout in Thailand could be on the horizon and that the satellite internet service may soon be available to Thai users.
Replying to a post on X, questioning why Thailand is still two years behind its neighbors like Malaysia and the Philippines on high-speed satellite internet service, Musk suggested that Starlink will soon be available in the kingdom. “Hopefully, coming soon,” he replied.
While still unavailable in the country, Starlink satellites had gone through a trial phase in Thailand from April to September 2024. The trial, under the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) supervision, focuses on support for search and rescue missions, remote education, and remote medical services.
Following the trial, some rural communities expressed strong interest in the service.
Currently on Starlink’s official availability map, Thailand and most of its neighbors are marked “Coming Soon,” with Thailand and Vietnam receiving “Pending Regulatory Approval” remarks.
