B.Grimm Power Public Company Limited (SET: BGRIM), one of Thailand’s leading independent power producers, and Digital Edge (Singapore) Holdings Pte. Ltd., a leading pan-Asia data center platform provider, have officially commenced construction on their first data center in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) under their joint venture, Digital Edge B.Grimm (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of full-scale development, targeting the first phase opening by the end of 2026. The project is positioned to become a key hub for AI and Cloud service providers, meeting demands for high-efficiency operations and sustainable growth, and supporting Thailand’s ambition to become an Innovative Hub in Southeast Asia.
Following their joint investment announcement for a hyperscale data center project with a total value exceeding THB 24.52 billion in June 2025, BGRIM and Digital Edge have now kicked off the official foundation pile-driving in Chonburi, located in the heart of the EEC.
The first phase comprises the construction of a 100 MW data center, with the first 48 MW data center to be launched in 4Q26. The facility will offer high-density high-density colocation, advanced interconnectivity, and hybrid cloud solutions tailored to the needs of hyperscalers, AI workloads, and enterprises undergoing digital transformations.
The partners aim to establish a regional stronghold for AI and Cloud providers seeking to expand in Southeast Asia, enhancing Thailand’s digital infrastructure and setting a new benchmark for regional sustainability.
Dr. Harald Link, Group President of BGRIM, stated that the groundbreaking of this hyperscale data center project is a major step in turning the shared vision of BGRIM and Digital Edge into reality. The project will meet the demands of leading global technology players and help set the course for Thailand’s digital future, elevating the nation’s role as a premier digital hub in Southeast Asia.
John Freeman, CEO of Digital Edge, added that this milestone partnership with BGRIM enables the company to deliver a sustainable AI-ready infrastructure at a scale and pace meeting customers’ ambitions and the region’s evolving needs. He believed that this project will form the essential foundation for Thailand’s genuine digital transformation, addressing the rapidly increasing requirements for AI and Machine Learning.
The hyperscale data center project is purpose-built for maximum energy efficiency, aiming for a low PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) standard aligned with world-class data center benchmarks. The development is supported by top-tier consultants specialized in data center design and operations, ensuring robust, stable infrastructure equipped for future technology growth.
The first phase will be bolstered by BGRIM’s extensive renewable energy portfolio, providing strong assurances that, upon completion, the center will play a vital role in enabling efficient and sustainable AI-at-scale operations.
As an asset class, data centers offer attractive double-digit returns on investment, making them highly appealing to local and international investors, financial institutions, and end-users. Clean energy, especially when supplied via Direct PPA to data center clients, will be a key driver for enhanced efficiency and long-term sustainability. Timely government support in this area will be crucial in boosting Thailand’s competitiveness and delivering broad-based economic benefits.
This initiative forms one of the three core pillars of the future “Digital Infrastructure as a Service” ecosystem, which includes:
- Data Center: Large-scale data storage and processing facilities as the backbone for digital platforms.
- Energy Platform-as-a-Service: Integrated, data center-specialized energy services, featuring multi-source integration, smart grids, and advanced energy management for optimized and cost-effective power use.
- Industrial Digital Services: Ancillary services for industrial sectors to help factories and existing businesses transition towards smart operations through digital technologies, such as analytics for manufacturing and digital management systems.
Together, these three pillars will not only provide digital services but also elevate Thailand’s competitive capabilities by establishing a robust, integrated digital ecosystem on the world stage.
