US Stock Futures Flat ahead of Delayed Economic Data Releases

U.S. stock futures traded largely unchanged on Tuesday as investors awaited a batch of postponed economic releases expected to offer further insight into the state of the economy, although analysts forecast the data are unlikely to alter the current expectations for interest-rate cuts.

As of 4:48 P.M. (GMT+7), Dow Jones Industrial Average futures ticked up 0.02%, or 8.60 points, to 48,371.30 points, while S&P 500 futures added slightly by 0.03%, or 1.80 points, to 6,880.30 points. Nasdaq 100 futures also edged up only by 0.07%, or 18.90 points, to 25,480.60 points.

The three indices remained near previous levels, following a positive session on Monday that marked the third consecutive winning sessions in Wall Street. Meanwhile, gold and silver prices continued their momentum, extending a powerful rally that has positioned both precious metals for what could be their best yearly performance in over 40 years.

Optimism about a year-end rally has been fueled by the recent advance in equities, pushing the S&P 500 within 0.3% of a record high achieved earlier in the month—a level reached before investors shifted away from AI and technology stocks during several trading sessions.

The rebound in U.S. stocks has been supported by last week’s economic data, which included an unexpected dip in inflation along with a subdued reading on the labor market—developments that have kept expectations for interest-rate cuts in 2026 largely unchanged.

Today, investors will scrutinize a wave of delayed indicators ahead of the Christmas break. Markets will receive an initial estimate of third-quarter GDP, postponed due to a recent federal shutdown, offering a snapshot of the nation’s economic performance.

Attention will also turn to the Conference Board’s December consumer confidence report, especially as the divergence in spending patterns between American households—the so-called K-shaped economy—remains a focal point as 2025 unfolds.

Looking ahead, U.S. financial markets will close early on Wednesday and remain closed throughout Thursday in observance of the Christmas holiday.
