Thai PM Moves Forward with US Negotiation to Level Trade Balance despite Court Ruling over Tariffs

Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra made a statement during an interview regarding the recent ruling by a U.S. Federal Court, which found that President Donald Trump exceeded his legal authority in imposing tariffs on several countries.

The PM stated that she is aware of the news but sees it as a domestic issue for the world’s largest economy. Thailand cannot clearly assess any potential impact at the moment, but the country must continue to move forward and remain prepared on all fronts.

Paetongtarn added that during the recent ASEAN Summit in Malaysia, she discussed U.S. import tariffs with other ASEAN leaders. All countries are at a similar stage, having submitted proposals to the U.S. and currently waiting to schedule negotiations.

She emphasized that Thailand is not lagging behind and is on the same timeline as other nations, well within the agreed 90-day period for the talks.

The Prime Minister also noted that there have been no negative signals from the U.S., and communication continues informally between both sides. She confirmed that dialogue and cooperation are ongoing, which is a positive sign, with no indication that the U.S. will suspend talks or halt negotiations.

In addition, she also clarified that previous concerns about potential U.S. visa suspensions have not become an issue, and all parties have a good understanding.
